For the most part he was right, however he did leave out that most glorious time of the year in Texas which is spring. Spring is that transitional time from cold and brown to hot and brown. Along with the occasional thunderstorm, tornado and hail the size of watermelons, spring brings leaves on plants and trees, green grass, wildflowers along the roads and just an all around good feeling. It gets everybody so excited that they all (us included when we lived here) make a trip to Home Depot, Lowes or a similar store and pluck down hundreds of dollars on flowers and plants. The daytime temperatures are nice, and daylight savings time adds more hours in the day for toiling away planting and tending to plants. These gardens are a source of great pride, at least until about the middle of June when the daily highs start to hit one hundred and rain becomes a distant memory. One by one everyone throws in the towel, and Scotts observation of hot and brown becomes the reality for the next three months.
We're in Texas this week and it's a perfect week to be here. Not only are we getting to spend a lot of time with Ben but we're seeing it at it's best. Green and colorful!
Texas is a great state filled with wonderful people. It's fun to swing through here several times a year no matter the season.
