| Incognito in Cannes |
The city of Cannes, which is located along the French Riviera, is a year round playground for the rich and famous. At this particular time of year it seems as if the population of around 80,000 residents more than doubles, as it becomes a playground for the even more rich and more famous. The Cannes Film Festival is currently underway. As soon as it ends, the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco takes place just an hour away. The ultra rich and famous are enjoying their time in the French Riveria.
Cannes was a port that required the use of tender boats. We were up and ready early and were on the first tender to leave the ship. It was a short but very entertaining journey as we weaved our way around some of the world’s largest and most expensive super yachts.

When we reached the shore as is often the case, we went the opposite direction of the masses who headed towards the city center. We were pleased to have the beachfront promenade pretty much to ourselves, joined only by a few locals who were out for their morning strolls. Eventually, we turned around and made our way back into the heart of the city. It was almost noon. The film festival was still shaking off the cobwebs from the previous nights parties, and just starting to come back to life. We saw lots of black high end vehicles with police escorts, but with the darkened windows up we couldn’t see who was inside. It probably wouldn’t have mattered if the windows were down and the occupants were hanging out the windows. There are only a handful we’d recognize anyway.

Speaking of being recognized. For our day in Cannes, Beth didn’t put on makeup and I didn’t shave…….it worked. We were able to blend in and enjoy the day without being bothered by autograph seekers or the paparazzi!
